Prakasham Reddy Shetty obtained his MSc in Botany from Gulbarga University, Gulbarga, Karnataka and PhD from Department of Biochemistry, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya on "Role of ammonium and glutamine transport systems in nitrogen control of nitrogenase in nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria". Subsequently he joined Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) as a Research Associate and worked on development of Antisense RNA for the control of TMV. In 1991, he joined the Regional Research Laboratory (RRL)-Jorhat, Assam as Scientist and contributed on Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery. In 1995 he moved to Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad. He visited North-Wyke Rothamsted Institute, Okhampton, UK (2008-90) and was a visiting researcher to Concordia University (2012), Montreal, Canada as NSERC fellow, Canada.
