Dr. D. Shailaja, born on 7 th Jan’1965, obtained her M.Sc (1986)and M.Phil (1987) degrees in chemistry from HyderabadCentral University (HCU). She joined Polymers & FunctionalMaterials Division (PFM), Indian Institute of ChemicalTechnology (IICT) as CSIR-JRF and obtained Ph.D. fromOsmania University (OU) in the year 1993. She joined the PFMdivision as Scientist 'B' in the same year and is continuing herservices as Senior Principal Scientist. Since Oct’ 2016, she hasbeen entrusted with additional duties as Head, ResearchManagement Division acknowledging the leadership skills inher. She was awarded with CSIR-DAAD Fellowship in the year1996 and was deputed to University of Kiel, Germany for a period of 1 year to pursueadvanced research studies, after 4 months of German language course at Goethe Institute,Bremen. Areas of her research interests are core shell polymer emulsions, polymerinorganic nanocomposites, fluoroacrylates for functional coatings, opaque polymerpigments, microencapsulation, and polymers for controlled release applications. She hasworked on several projects of National relevance, sponsored by both Government andPrivate Industries and has around 30 publications to her credit. Audio Visual ResearchCentre (AVRC), OU has produced an audiovisual program of 20 mins on her work andtelecast on DD1 channel under the title “Ladies in Labs”. She was listed in 5000personalities in the world by American Biographical Institute in the year 1998 and thecoming up 31st edition of Who's Who in the World, 2014. Recently, on the 73 rdFoundation Day held on 5 th Aug’2016, she had received Technology Award (TeamAward) for “Synthesis of Copovidone” a pharmaceutical excipient for successful transferof technology to the sponsor.
