Dr. Abhijit Hazarika has joined CSIR-IICT as a Scientist in the Polymers and Functional Materials Department in September 2019. His expertise is in the fields of colloidal nanomaterials, their synthesis, surface chemistry and photophysics. His current research interests are in the area of renewable energy, particularly metal halide perovskite solar cells, as well as colloidal quantum dots and quantum wells for optoelectronic applications.
He did his PhD in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India under the supervision of Prof. D. D. Sarma. His PhD work involved synthesis and photophysics of Manganese doped colloidal semiconducting nanocrystals.
Prior to joining at CSIR-IICT, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Colorado in the group of Dr. Joseph M Luther, where he was involved in the project of Perovskite Quantum Dot materials and devices. His works emphasize on synthetic control over metal halide perovskite nanocrystals for single junction and tandem solar cells. He was also involved in designing automated and high-throughput synthetic methodologies, like microfluidic reactors for perovskite quantum dots.He also spent a couple of years as Post-Doctoral Scholar at the University of Chicago in the group of Prof. Dmitri V Talapin, where he developed methodologies for synthesizing complex heterostructures of colloidal semiconducting nanomaterials with atomic precision.
